People of the World and ST Use me
Found this comic today, thought I would open up a discussion on how sad it is that in today's world people cannot spell out the words properly... they use acronyms for everything or use "textinese" (I know NOT a word...yet) and expect people to read and understand them.
I can understand once in awhile, an L O L or something, but excessive usage to me shows that either the person 1)lacks spelling capacity (which is why everyone has spellcheck) and 2) is pure lazy or 3) just ignorant.
Anyone else care to chime in?

I said last night everybody was bringing a "can of worms" well I guess you've found one! LOL I think you just put on the instigator hat. OK here we go...
Bad spelling drives me insane! Like you said, everybody has spellcheck, use it! If you don't know how, it takes 10 seconds to learn.
It definitely comes across as laziness. I don't care if you graduated from high school, you can use spellcheck. After all, its to your advantage to come across with some intelligence.
Texting is another one. Save it for your phone. I just refuse to abreviate words. Speak English!
I know sometimes in the forums, we can sling around some slang talk but we are just having fun. We can also type like normal human beings when we want to. lol
I think emoticons are fine to use in the forums. It helps make posts more colorful and helps us express things that we can't always get across by typing words.
It really can become a habit to just skim over your typing before you post it. Just takes a little mind over matter.

A recent study has shown that for some crazy reason people seem to think that proper spelling and grammar online is not needed. The same person that spells incorrectly and uses poor grammar and punctuation online will sit and compose a letter on actual paper sounding like an English scholar.
I wonder why this is?

Maybe its because when some people are online, anonymously in some cases, and they can't relate to it being real time or part of reality versus physically sitting down and writing a letter that they can see and touch. See where I'm going with this? Just an observation!

I'm not a very good speller. MOST times I can see or know it is spelled wrong. My spell check here, is stupid. I need a second, hand held, to get some words right. At least I try.
some lol of the email and profiles can't even start a sentence with a capital letter. These drive me nuts! |

So now I want to know....when was the last time you wrote a letter to someone?? And mailed it?? Shoot, Clark & I are just rednecks!! Speak it everyday!!! I'll be honest, I haven't wrote a letter to someone in quite sometime! But I'll just bet I ain't alone!! So what has technology turned us into? Out of touch with people in a personal way?
Guess that's why the U.S. Postal Service is in a crisis?? Just my thoughts!!

Shirley sweetie, I haven't wrote a letter in years either! We was just bitching about spelling and texting. That's all. We want people to get the right impression when we send them an email so I check quick or spellcheck it to make sure I didn't spell something wrong and that what I wrote made some kind of sense. lol We understand y'all just fine. LOL

lol lol lol we have a friend of ours , DONT THINK BAD, but hes in jail, we been keeping up with him thru letters cuz thats the only way you can besides visting, hes a close friend of my husbands, no sexual relationship thou, just close friends, hes had a hard life so we kindof make him feel better by jus staying in touch and careing ,hes actually hopeing to get out for Christmas, hes been in there for about 1 yr now, bummer, but yeh its fun to still write the old fashion way, that'll never die!!!!!!! lol lol lol lol |

I guess I'm to blame for this post. I made a comment to Sharon about someone's answer to another post that was so bad that I could not even read it. I had to skip over it and go on the the next persons response to the question. I know I am not the perfect speller, But I do have spell check, Her name is Sharon. She is a little tempermental when I keep asking her how to spell a word, But she's a whole lot more fun to use than the computer. |

I know sweetie it is really difficult especially me being as technically handicap as I am to understand some of things said on texting all the time having to ask my son what it means.. SugarBear :) |
