WHY DO OUR KIDS HAVE TO LEARN TWO YEARS OF SPANISH IN SCHOOL? WE PULLED AN EIGHT YEAR SPANISH OLD BOY OUT FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE RIVER IN A STATE PARK AFTER A TEN HOUR SEARCH, NOT GOOD AND THE SCARY PART WAS THERE WER THITY OF THEM SMIMMING THERE WERE IT IS CLEARLY MARKED NO SWIMMING WITH THREE SIGNS BECAUSE THERE IS A WHIRLPOOL THERE. NOT A GOOD WAY TO SPEND A SUNDAY EVENING

Thanks Dernie for your selfless volunteering services. People do not realize just how much volunteers sustain the stability of our lives until they run into one. The volunteers at the hospitals the help ease you when your sick, volunteer fire department whom put out fires, volunteer crisis workers whom help when a person is in desperate need, and for those whom help feed the hungry in soup kitchens... I can go on and on.
Thanks to all whom help give to others selflessly!

This man just helped in a search for a body, Why the hell are you people bagging on him about his spelling. And who gives a shit about caps just as long as we know what they are trying to say. I did not know that we had so many perfect people here that never made any mistakes. |

I just remember being a kid and no matter what the signs read I always ignored them. Don't think reading had anything to do with the tragic death of this poor child.
On the other hand, 2 yrs of Spanish does not begin to scratch what you Americans lack when it comes down to languages. Fortunately for most of you, you don't travel enough to find yourselves in difficulty because of language barriers. My wife was miserable while we were living in Europe(mortgage free) because she only speaks English and she couldn't make any friends because of the language barrier. And because of her ignorance we had to come back to Canada and be enslaved by bills, taxes, mortgage/car/truck payments, interest rates.......
And 7 mths of fawking winter/yr!!!!!!!! FML!!!!!!! |

In most coutries, children are required to start learning English somewhere between 3rd and 5th grade because the scientific community operates primarily in English worldwide, then take a third language in high school. Regardless of what happened with this child, American children learning multiple languages aids their learning ability across the board and dependsing on the languages they learn, gives them an advantage in the business world. What happened is a terrible tragedy, and could have been prevented, but it has nothing to do with what languages American children speak. If these were school-aged children enrolled in an American school, they most likely were taking ESL (English as a second language) classes, but chose of their own free will to ignore the signs.
Magiriano, I understand how your wife feels. I make 1-2 trips a year to Denmark, and because I don't speak Danish, it's difficult. |
