I am a bright, well-educated, retired professional who has enjoyed a rich family life, meaningful work, good friends, broad interests, and a reputation as “one of the good guys.” I am sincerely grateful for all of that. But it’s also true that my life has been very buttoned-up. I’m feeling a growing urge to open up—to taste more, to experience more, to risk more.
